Events
In common with all similar organisations we had to abandon any thought of organising meetings or events during 2020. During 2021 all that should change, so watch this space for news of future meetings and events.
See below for a description of the 2019 churches tour, which has become an established part of the calendar.
Three Suffolk Churches – An Architectural Tour, Thursday 27th June 2019.
Our “magical mystery tour” took place on a beautiful summer evening, visiting three contrasting churches. The first was St Mary’s at Bury St Edmunds, offering soaring slender stone columns topped with a magnificent hammer-beam roof with all its intricately carved angels intact. Definitely one to revisit with more time and binoculars. It is also where Henry VIII’s favourite sister Mary, briefly Queen of France, is buried. Next to Cockfield, another expensively built church benefiting from the wealth of Bury Abbey, and finally to nearby Gedding, a small church serving a small parish but in a surprisingly large graveyard. The evening was concluded in the Six Bells at Felsham.
